Six grades are issued continuously. One was issued once.
Every Counter-Strike skin carries a rarity grade, from Consumer to Covert, and cases and trade-up contracts keep minting new supply in all of them. Contraband is the exception: a grade created for a single skin that had to be withdrawn from circulation, and never issued again.
- 1 May 2014
Valve releases the Huntsman Weapon Case. Its top-tier drop is the M4A4 | Howl.
- 11 June 2014
The Howl's artwork is found to infringe a third party's copyright. Valve removes it from the case, revises the artwork and reclassifies it under a new grade: Contraband.
- 11 June 2014
The Howling Dawn sticker, derived from the same artwork, is reclassified alongside it. These remain the only two contraband-grade items in the game.
- 2014 to today
No case, trade-up contract or update has issued a Howl since. Supply has been fixed for over twelve years.
- Today
Roughly 7,600 Howls exist. Supply can only contract, and every acquisition by the treasury removes one from circulation.
Two items. One grade. Zero issuance.
